Configuring Your Email Client to Send and Receive Email

 

All email clients require the same basic input to send and receive email.  You will need to know:

  1. Your username and password for  your ISP  (You may have more than one mailbox/ username.)
  2. E-mail address: username@ISPname.net (com or edu)   (smith@comcast.com)
  3. Incoming mail server name: mail.ISPname.net (com or edu)
  4. Outgoing mail server name: smtp*.ISPname.net (com or edu)  (*this varies)
  5. Your ISP's email type:  POP or IMAP   Hosting Provider List
  6. Your ISP's  incoming and outgoing mailserver name.  Mail Server List

Open IE7:  Tools: Account Settings: Email tab: New

You can use the automatic method or configure the data manually.

 

 

 


  1. POP3 or IMAP  (Comcast, ATT and Sprint are POP3)

  2. Name email account:  (Give it any name to differentiate it from other accounts you may have with your name.)

  3. Email Address:  (e.g. smithj@comcast.net)

  4. Password:  (You may be asked to enter it twice.)

  5. Incoming Mail Server: (e.g.   mail.comcast.net  )

  6. Outgoing Mail Server: (e.g.   smtp.comcast.net  )

Open Apple Mail: Preferences Accounts: click plus sign (bottom left) to add new account.
