Making your pages accessible allows everyone to enjoy your web pages.
Clear, logical design, navigation, and labeling are extremely important to providing access to all viewers of your pages. The following examples are some, but not all of the recommended Web page accessibility guidelines. At the end of the page you will find a list of resources.

Quick Tips

  1. Images and animations  Use the ALT attribute to describe the function of all visuals.

  2. Image maps  Use client-side MAP for text for hotspots

  3. Multimedia  Provide captioning or transcripts of audio and video.

  4. Hypertext links  Use descriptive link text, not "click here."

  5. Page organization  Use headings, lists, consistent structure and style sheets for layout.

  6. Graphs and charts  Summarize or use the LONGDESC attribute.

  7. Scripts, applets, and plug-ins  Provide alternative content in case active features are inaccessible.

  8. Frames. Label with the TITLE or NAME attribute.

  9. Tables. Make line by line reading sensible. Summarize. Avoid using tables for column layout.

  10. Check your work. Validate HTML. Use evaluation tools and text-only browsers to verify accessibility.
